Bahrain Test 24th February 2007 - A McLaren Mercedes one-two

Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton led the way for McLaren Mercedes as the first three day test at the Bahrain circuit came to an end. Alonso set a best lap of 1:30.994s a tenth faster than Rookie Hamilton.

Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen were next up for Ferrari seven and eight tenths off the ultimate pave while Heikki Kovalainen recorded the fifth fastest time for Renault.

Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button were next up for Honda while David Coulthard extracted some pace from the Renault-powered Red Bull to set the eighth fastest time ahead of Piquet in the second R27.

Nick Heidfeld, fastest on Friday, was tenth best today just ahead of team-mate Robert Kubica ahead of Anthony Davidson in the interim Super Aguri Honda. Franck Montagny was next up in his Toyota ahead of Mark Webber in the second RB3.

Toro Rosso ran Scott Speed for the first time in the new Ferrari-powered STR2 indicating that perhaps the contractual problems have been resolved/ Speed was 16th fastest just behind Jarno Trulli’s Toyota and ahead of Tonio Liuzzi who ran only a handful of laps in the STR2.
